Bristol - A City of Contrast Bristol is a blend of the historic and the contemporary with the harbour in the heart of the city. THE CONTEMPORARYBristol was a port for a thousand years and the old harbour is undergoing a transformation. Much of the harbour area now houses restaurants, bars, museums and galleries. All of this is within 5 minutes walking distance of the college, which also has in its vicinity the famous St Nicholas Market - famous for its flowers, herbs, aromatherapy, antiques, and many other artifacts.THE HISTORICBristol contains many interesting churches including the oldest Methodist building in the world, John Wesley's Chapel. Bristol is also known for its links with the famous Victorian Engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel who, as well as designing the Suspension Bridge, also constructed the Great Western Railway and the Bristol-built steamships - the Great Western and Great Britain. The SS Great Britain can be visited in her original dry dock down in the harbour.Whilst in the area you can see the famous nails in Corn Street, just outside the market, where trading used to take place, and the renowned 17th Century church at the top of the High Street, whose bell is struck every quarter hour by two little men with hammers. NIGHTLIFEBristol is a student city and the nightlife is wide and varied. Whether you enjoy nightclubs, pubs, restaurants, or the theatre you will be bound to find something to suit your tastes. There are a number of cinema complexes, including a couple of arts cinemas local to the college.Bristol has its very own What's On guide which fortnightly lists the films, bands, plays, nightclubs, dances and more. ACCOMMODATIONAs Bristol is a student city it has a lot of accommodation. We can also help you find a flat or family to stay with should you require our help.
