CITY & GUILDS EXAMINATION COMPUTER COURSES (Essential to Advanced)
The systems used are new Pentium computers together with Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2000:
Word, Excel Spreadsheets, Access Database and PowerPoint graphics
- the most popular packages in use at home and in the office.
WORD PROCESSING ESSENTIAL (Essential Exam level)
This 'hands on' course is designed for the typist who has little or no knowledge of Word Processing but approximately 20 - 25 words per minute typing skills. The course covers all day-to-day WP functions you are likely to meet including text creation and editing, moving and copying text, format, printing, spell checker, tabulation, justification, font styles and point size, tables, indentation, logging on and off, presentation and enhancements.
Job Prospects: Almost all jobs require use of a word processor and therefore this skill is essential for any level of secretarial work.
Attendance: 10 am - 1 pm Monday to Friday. Examination 2 pm - 3.30 pm Friday. (15 hours)

WORD PROCESSING INTERMEDIATE (Intermediate Exam Level)
This course is designed for students who have already reached RSA I or Pitman essential level using Word for Windows and who have a typing speed of approximately 30 - 35 wpm. The syllabus includes all the essential level skills but used at a much higher level, plus margins, line spacing, search and replace, landscape, advanced table features, borders and shading, section breaks, printing options, autotext, headers and footers, page numbering, graphics, frames, disk formatting and file management.
Job Prospects: Excellent job prospects with this level of word processing for secretarial or temporary work.
Attendance: 10 am - 1 pm Monday to Friday plus 2 pm - 5 pm Wednesday or Thursday. Examination 2 pm - 4 pm Friday. (18 hours)

WORD PROCESSING ADVANCED (Advanced Exam Level)
This course is designed for students who have intermediate or advanced typing skills at an approximate speed of
40 - 45 wpm and have already taken the RSA II or City & Guilds Intermediate level. Many advanced features are covered
including more complex versions of tables, borders and shading. New features are 6 pt line spacing, drawing, bullets
and paragraph numbering, dot leader tabulation, importing and re-sizing graphics, default setting, print options, creating custom dictionary,
use of thesaurus, newspaper columns, wildcard searches, mail merge, and working in two directories.
Job Prospects: Senior Word Processor Operator, PA Secretary, Medical Secretary, Legal Secretary, Private Secretary, Administrative Secretary, etc.
Attendance: 10 am - 1 pm Monday to Friday and 2 pm - 5 pm Wednesday or Thursday. Examination 2 pm - 4 pm Friday. (18 hours)

WORD PROCESSING PROFESSIONAL (Please ask for details)
This course is designed for students who have advanced typing and Word
Processing skills and have already taken the City & Guilds Advanced level (or equivalent).

DATA PROCESSING INTERMEDIATE (18 hours)
This course takes a complete beginner up to an intermediate standard in one week. The
course covers loading, editing and setting up a database to meet information needs,
sort records and select records using a range of specified query criteria.
You will also add new records, copy and save, edit, landscape and print.
You can take Level 1, Level 2 or both exams on the Friday afternoon.
Attendance: 10 am - 1 pm Monday to Friday and 2 pm - 5 pm Wednesday or Thursday. Examination 2 pm - 4 pm Friday. (18 hours)

VISUAL PRESENTATIONS INTERMEDIATE (18 hours)
This Intermediate course uses PowerPoint to produce a presentation and edit an existing,
presentation. It covers layout masters, bullets, font style, size and colour,
and slide background. You will create, size and position text frames, import
slides, text and graphic images, cut, copy, paste, change line spacing, indents,
and alignment. You will be asked to create a chart, adding titles, axis labels
and a legend. You will also learn to animate blocks of text, transition effects
and times, audience handouts, slides, presenter notes, black and white view,
print screen, and print options.
Attendance: 10 am - 1 pm Monday to Friday and 2 pm - 5 pm Wednesday or Thursday. Examination 2 pm - 4 pm Friday. (18 hours)

SPREADSHEET PROCESSING ESSENTIAL LEVEL (15 hours)
This course covers creating and editing a spreadsheet. You will set up a
spreadsheet to show specified information, apply formulae, delete and insert rows,
columns and cells. You will cover fonts, italics, bold, headers and footers,
landscape, bold, centring, borders and shading, printing options. We will hopefully take
a look at linking and graphs and charts.
Attendance: 10 am - 1 pm Monday to Friday. Examination 2 pm - 4 pm Friday. (15 hours)

SPREADSHEET PROCESSING INTERMEDIATE LEVEL (18 hours)
This course covers that learned in Essential level but to an intermediate level,
plus text boxes, more advanced functions and formulae,
absolute and relative formulae, inserting and editing bar and pie charts,
and various printing options.
Attendance: 10 am - 1 pm Monday to Friday and 2 pm - 5 pm Wednesday or Thursday. Examination 2 pm - 4 pm Friday. (18 hours)

SPREADSHEET PROCESSING ADVANCED LEVEL (18 hours)
This course covers everything learned in Essential and Intermediate level but to a much
more advanced level. Additionally, you will look at linking, sorting, naming cells,
look-up tables, graphics, advanced charts and graphs, functions and formulae, macros, comments
data validation and nested formulae.
